to tasteFresh chives, finely chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
In a large skillet, combine the butter and olive oil. Heat over medium heat until the butter has melted and is bubbling.
Add the thinly sliced onions to the skillet, ensuring they are evenly spread out. Sprinkle with sea salt to enhance their flavor. Sauté the onions for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften and become translucent.
Once the onions are softened, sprinkle the granulated sugar evenly over them. This will aid in the caramelization process. Continue to cook for an additional 20-25 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking, until the onions turn a deep golden brown and become beautifully caramelized.
Remove the skillet from the heat and allow the caramelized onions to cool slightly.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix using a spatula or electric mixer until the mixture is smooth and well combined, ensuring no lumps remain.
Gently fold the cooled caramelized onions into the creamy mixture, ensuring they are evenly incorporated.
Transfer the dip to a stylish serving bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. This chilling time will help the flavors blend harmoniously.
Just before serving, garnish the dip with a sprinkle of finely chopped fresh chives for an appealing touch.
Notes
Serve with crispy crackers, toasted baguette slices, or vegetable sticks for dipping.
